Win 296 for 45LC
« on: February 12, 2007, 03:38:46 AM »
I'm trying different powders for the 45LC, shooting out of a Ruger Blackhawk.  I've tried H110 very good results, Vit 320 okay but smokey, 2400 good accuracy but slighlty smokey.  So I loaded up some Win 296 with what info I could find, just would like to know if anyone else has used it, good or bad results.  Using 250gr Laser cast bullets.  Won't be able to try these loads out for a few days, maybe this next weekend.  Looking at stout loads, but not wrist breakers, would rather have better accuracy with still sufficent knock down power at about 50-100 yards.  Right now with it being winter, I'm shooting indoor range, so maybe I shouldn't be too concerned with smoke???

win 296 is the same powder as H-110 so, they should shoot the same..

With 255 grain bullets, I've had better luck with Hodgdon 4227 than with H110.  Lower spreads and better consistent accuracy.
