This year? Nowhere. No one in our group obtained any permits. In 2004, I was lucky to get picked for a permit in the state of New Hampshire. I shot a nice young bull with my TC Contender handgun. Then the following year, 2005, my mother was picked. So I was the subpermittee. I was able to shoot a small bull with the TC Contender.

I really love moose hunting but it may be a while before I have the chance to get a permit.

Maine.
WMD #18.
Bull.
Only about 8 miles off the tar but here a mile off the road and you can get some kind of lonely for months at a time.
We go with a 2 man team in the canoe and the permitee and sub flip a coin that morn to see who sits up front which makes him the shooter and the man in the stern runs the boat and the call.
It works really well for us and it’s sure a hoot to call ‘em in.
9 for 9 so far with the biggest being 893lbs, 53” last year.

Ditto on the "far from any pavement."  I'll be in my favorite spot with my 10 y.o. son in the Alaska Range 40 air minutes from Fairbanks.

I'll be doing all of my moose hunting in Ontario as usual.

My archery group has a cow tag, so we'll be going zone 24 north of Kapuskasing (S-W of James Bay).

My firearms group has a bull tag, so I'll be hunting in zone 47 northeast of Parry Sound (S of Lake Nipissing).  Last year I saw two bulls in this area - one of them a real bruiser.

I'll be in Central Newfoundland in October looking for a bull moose in the 40 inch class.

Central Newfoundland for the opener in September.  Near Frozen Ocean Lake.  Starting to get close & getting excited!

Steve66:

Our camp is north of Maple Island and Labrash Lake, in the southern edge of zone47 and McKenzie Twp.

It's not a bad moose area though (if you can get tags).  The second and 4th largest moose from Parry Sound District were taken in our camp.

I'm not going to the usual spot in the Alaska Range this year.  I'm going North to float a river that I have never floated before, in the Brooks Range.  My partner flew in last week with his float plane to fish and check out the area.  Had three bulls walk right through his camp on the river bed.  Also saw a Grizzly chasing a Cow across the river from him. Winter starts a little earlier up there.

A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

Maine--WMD #11.  Have hunted deer there for years.  Spent this weekend looking things over.  Have selected five good spots as calling sites.  Will line up a couple more next weekend.  Hunt starts on the 25th.  After many years of applying, I finally got drawn.  Have been on several hunts but always the "bridesmaid" never the "bride".  At 67 I'm as excited as a kid again!

Got a nice young bull Saturday.  Dressed 720 pounds.  Clean kill.  Fairly easy recovery.  Great hunting experience!

Since this thread has been resurrected, I might as well jump in with last year's results.

During the bow hunt we managed to call a big bull within 15 yds of one of the guys, but since we only had a cow tag we had to let him walk.

On opening day of the gun hunt in zone 47, one guy managed to shoot a calf, and the same afternoon my brother-in-law dropped a 55 inch bull.  It took us two days to get both moose out of the bush, and 3 of the guys left at that point.  Three of us stayed in the last three days, and managed to sight 6 more moose for a total of 15 for the week.  I had a chance to shoot at a calf, but my sight failed at the critical time, so it'll be growing up this year.  In all I sighted 2 bulls, a cow and a calf, but didn't see a bull 'till after our tag was gone.

I'm planning the same two hunts this year, and I'm adding another bow hunt in zone 28 as well.  We have an outfitter (bull) tag for my new hunt, but we'll have to wait 'till August to find out if we have any more adult tags for that hunt, or either of my usual ones.

wow not sure whats more impressive, getting a nice bull or actually getting a tag for WMU 47 lol

i never made it into there this year for the hunt, i did all my moose hunting up in 41 this year (longer season/more moose) never saw anything though.  did see a bull in 47 during the deer hunt though.

We had lots of moose in our area last year.  I think its because we finally had a wet year after several dry ones in succession.

The first bull I saw was when I was taking the ATV out to the kill site and had 3 other guys with me.  He was feeding on some brush on top of a rise, and merely looked over at me and then went back to feeding.  The ATV was running, and other guys stood around looking at him for quite a long while.  It was like he knew we didn't have a tag left.

I had two bulls almost step on me during the deer hunt as well.  We were doing a short drive, and I had taken an unusual watch due to some downed trees.  The first one came out straight for me, but saw me at about 20 yds, turned back in and then circled.  The second was going to walk right over me when I had to waive my arms to discourage him at at about 5 yds.

ya i just about got run over by a big bull during the deer hunt last year.  had one of the dogs chasing him, thing barely saw me running at full speed right at me, with me yelling at waving my arms, finally he turned away though, just in time i was about ready to crap my pants LOL.

AKPLS: if you go to your usual spot, and it is close to the REX, look for a Red Nodwell 60.  50% chance it will be me, otherwise it will be Dave Dickey, he has one too.  If the rig is going slow and easy it's me, if it's going airborne , and throwing mud 30ft it's Dave.

It seems we have two tags for my first bow hunt, a cow and a bull tag.  My second has only the outfitter supplied bull tag, and my gun  hunt has only calf tags.  Now comes the hard part - finding the moose.
