Barber I speak only of what I have heard, but being I am from Western Washington I have to beleive you are speaking of Black bear. I heard a guy talking about hunting black bear with a 44 in Eastern Washington he had alot of experience, some 300 bears. He work at an apple orchard as the bear control. He claimed that the hollow piont was the best bullet he had found out of a 44 mag.  He stood by this. I personaly would think the 300 grain Corbon jacketed soft point would work well. Just my opinion though. Hope it helps.
GUN CONTROL IS KEEPING IT BETWEEN THE 9 AND 10 RING.
