Need Imput on proposed load for Lee113 gr Cast for '06
« on: February 09, 2007, 04:19:36 PM »
I've run out of R ed Dot and can't get any soon. I have Herco and Unique on hand. Would a starting load of 10gr  going up by.5gr until I find an accurate load sound good! This with out a GC as well. Looking to get to 1400-1500 fps, cast form WW's.  ???

Well thanks for the inputs? I loaded up three rounds each starting at 10.5 gr all the way up to 12. Got a nice group with 10.5 fired the 11gr loads and they were nice and tight at 25 yds alittle over 3/4" so I quit there as the velocity seemed to be getting up there above what I was looking for-Didn't want to start leading barrel! So I went and loaded 20 at 10.7 gr and I'll shoot at 100 yds to get sighted in-figure 2' high at a 100 should put me dead on at 175yds since these are running between 16-1700fps!   If I can keep them at about 1" at 100 they should be great Wpig rounds and be more then enough for Jack Rabbit/Yotes!

most of my light rifle loads just get 10 grains of unique. It doesnt recoil and most of what i use it for is 5o yard stuff and i never felt the need to full around with the load and tune it for altimate accuracy

Have you chrono'd these lite loads as I don't have a functional one at this time ?  Mine seem pretty zippy,so I'm figuring there at or around 1600-1700 fps! I use alot of Unigue in my loads(cast) for 45LC/454 Casull so I had a pretty good idea what to look for in the '06!
I also have a motive in my madness- I realy want a Wpig/coyote load and this 113 gr should be a great one so yes I'm looking to shoot accurately out to 200 yrds! Cast is so much cheaper then regular bullets!

Well I got out to and shot the 10.7 gr loads at 50 yards-it was windy,20 mph so I wasn't expecting a great group just allittle over 1"! Not bad!  My 100+ yd range was still to muddy to get to,so any further testing will wait! ;D

454;  I use both Herco  or Unique as you suggest.  I also use Universal the same way.  Teflon gasfitters tape, one turn, and sight it in to the BOTTOM point of the duplex reticle at four power for small game hits at 25 yards.

Sir Charles deMoutonBlack
So you tape the bullet instead of lube? Interesting! So have you Chronograph your loads?   ???
