Okay, I'm really looking hard at this press. I like the idea of setting up the dies and not having to worry about resetting them except for the recheck. THe price is right at Cabelas. Comes with a full set of dies.

So bring it on. Tell me why I should or should not go with this set up.

I assume your talking about the kit for $245. I have been looking at this press for awhile now and think I'll probably buy one. Thats a pretty good deal if you need all the other stuff that goes with it. If you don't need the extra stuff then you'd be better off just buying the press and putting the extra money where youll use it the most. I personally will never go back to a beam scale, or a manual case trimmer. I don't know anything about their powder dump but I suspect its pretty good. I guess what I'm saying is I would just buy the press if thats the one you want and look around at the other stuff, scale, trimmer, powder dump, load books, etc. That way you get what you really want instead of just settaling for what comes in a kit. Just my $.02 KN

I have a Lyman Crusher 2 single stage kit and I purchased a used Lyman Turret Press at a gun club swap meet. I love using them both.

What I like about the single stage kit was that it was a pretty complete reloading kit. (just needed dies, Lee case trimmers, Lee deburing tool, Impact bullet pulling tool, primer pocket cleaner, caliber) to get started. After I got comfortable I added a CH4D powder measure and a Midway tumbler, other brand reloading books and manuals, and Lee hand Primer tool.

What I like about the Lyman Turret tool, is that I keep my much of my 32 ACP and 9mm dies (case mouth belling and bullet seating) set up on it along with my powder measure. I then due my depriming & case sizing on my single stage for those calibers.

Yeah, I'm just gettting started so I have nothing but the Lyman 48th Manual. I thought with a decent press and all the dies in the kit, I could use everything else and decide later what I want to replace. Not sure if I'll like that scale. May replace it first.

Was at the Bullet Hole on Shawnee Mission Parkway yesterday and saw the Lee Anniversary kit for 169.99!!!! Almost fell over right there. Cabelas has them for 69.99 if I remember. I'll warn ya now I might pester the crap out of ya for information and maybe demonstratins!!!! :lol: :shock: :eek:

I have had the T-Mag Turret press for about eight years now and really like it. Also have the Lyman 55 powder measure and the power trimmer. I like them all. The power trimmer especially is a real time saver. Don't care much for their dies though. Their dies seem kind of rough. I prefer the Hornady and RCBS dies the best. Have never tried the Reddings which I hear are even better.

Have never used different shell plates. Instead just switch dies in and out of the same old one. I buy brass in bulk and just tool up for a large batch of ammo. It only takes me about 10 minutes to set up for a different caliber including setting my powder measure ( I have all the hash marks on the powder measure recorded for different loads).

To me it seems that if you go with diffent shell plates they are more exposed to damage, dust ect. I would rather keep the dies in their different boxes until needed --just my opinion. On the other hand, if you have a place to properly store them and Protect them from damage the extra shell plates my be a worthwhile investment.

I have heard people tell stories the potential for the plates not lining up with the shell holders. Haven't heard of it yet with the lyman press but I am sure it is possible. If they don't align properly I am sure Lyman will replace the part for you. Their service department has been good to me in the past. Hope this helps........Balto

I just bought a RCBS Turret reloader kit. But my buddy bought the Lyman T-Mag. It is very nice. Plus besides being about to get a set of dies with it, you also get the Lyman trimmer (worth about $ 59.00). I think that the RCBS might be built a little stronger, but can not say for sure. Plus to get all that that he got for well under $300.00 I will have closer to $400.00. I dont think a person can go wrong with either one.

I got everything BUT that with my anniversary turret kit, including the new Lyman manual.

I've used my tmag II for two years now and have no problems. I have about 5 turrets full of dies. I did break a pin on one die one time. I made a box that holds the turrets and used a dowel bolted to the bottom that would hold each turret upright and kept the dies from touching anything.
