Took the son and nephew out this morning to try for a coyote.Didn't have any luck ,but did get a big crow response to the rabbit in distress.I am hunting in south Ms. in young pines,weeds in clear cuts etc.I am not sure what I am doing wrong.If anyone on this board hunts in conditions like this,I would welcome advice.

I don't have "exactly" your conditions here in Virginia, but this time of year, in my experience, is the toughest time to try to call predators.

Don't give up, You will score one of these days when you least expect to. This is a hard sport to make contact with the wiley coyote. He is working as hard as you are trying not to be your trophy. You will get your turn sooner or later but you have to patient. I think the average caller goes 7 to 1 between calls before he gets one to come in, Then the average may go way up if he don't do his part and get a kill,,,, so hang in there it will come........Joe..........

I’ve been trying all winter in our State Forrest without luck. I got one to come in, which I saw for a brief second about 70 yards away. I believe he was moving to get behind me and was moving quick! I hunt in thickly wooded hills and most shots would be under 50 yards. For the past 3 hunts I’ve been trying a different Forrest. There’s a lot more sign and some prints are of a pretty big New England coyote. It was colder than heck this past Saturday. Definitely one of those one glove days. Only one glove off at a time! But what a fun day! I could smell them and heard bobcat cries, but didn’t see anything. But Saturday is only 4 days away and I’ll try again!
