What's ethical to me may not be your standards -I'm fine with that !  So you may think it's just peachy for a shooter to shoot at game with a 50 BMG at 1000+ yds!  So far away that they can't even tell if they killed the animal! With a rifle they can't even carry unless its on a tripod mounted to thier truck? So when they shoot that 1000yd elk or what ever tell me what do they take when they do(if they do) go and actually check to see if they killed that animal! They sure as heck are not going to carry that 50 cal up and down two mountains?  And no there is no magic distance as a cut off for an ethical shot- some gifted/profesional shots can and do take longer shots and make them cleanly and ethically!  But even you I hope can agree there are not many of them! I know the limitations of my firearms and myself! Techinically I could hit an animal with my rifle at well past 1000yds will I No!  Can they be killed at that range yes! Dosen't mean one should!

Let me say this...Ethics is a personal issue...and should not come into a discussion about caliber choices or distances that are shot... Any person who wants to give another man grief over them is wrong for doing so...unless they are breaking the law/s

I don't give a rats behind what you hunt or how you hunt as long as I am not put in danger. Most folks who shoot the ultra long ranges...have the capability to do what they do and do it safely without endangering anyone... The vast majority of hunters out there will nevertake a shot at 1000 yards at anything...including paper,so we aren't talking about numbers in the thousands..

For anyone to just arbitrarily say that folks doing this is un-ethical...... is just another persons way of telling some one else what they should do and sticking their noses in some one else's business..  They are trying to dictate how another person hunts...and trying to justify what they have said about it...They act like their opinion is what everyone should do.... They want everyone to hunt like them....Sorry..I don't believe someone else has this right.....Nor do I believe the state or any branch of the federal government has this right...

Now...let me ask you straight forward.....What makes you think that these folks who do hunt at these distances can't see the animal? Second..Why are you confusing what the military uses with what most long range riflemen use.... as too the weapon and how it is carried or shot...Third...You have absolutely no idea wither they are just shooting the animals and leaving them lay or going and retrieving them..so...why is it you don't think they retrieving the animals ?

Until you come to grips that all of us are individuals who has the right to choose what ever the caliber...and the distance that is shot....you will always have a problem with anyone using a 50cal at 1000 yards...or any other rifle that is more than capable of cleanly dispatching the animal at that distance...

I am not saying you can't have an opinion...but it is just that...an opinion...When so called hunters want to take up a public initiative to see a particular caliber or firearm or  banned from use...they have crossed a line from which they will never be fully trusted... They are indeed trying to tread on my rights...and I will call them what they are...and I am quite sure others will too...and quickly... Ask Zumbo...It's basically the same thing...which is why I mention him here...
