Bought a Savage

I spent nearly a year and a half reading everything I could read and finally decided on the Savage MLII in black synthetiic and blued barrel. Just got it yesterday and am confident I made the right choice for me. I just liked the fact that It shoots either BP Subs or Smokeless.

Same model I have. We call that the "Tupperware" stock.
I couldn't be happier with mine.
What load are you going to shoot?

Thanks for the welcome.
I am going to shoot 42-43 gr. of 4759 and either 250 gr. XTP or leaning more towards Barnes expanders in 250 or 300. I was not impressed with the stock so I took it apart and spent about 2 hrs. with a small file and 220 sandpaper taking down all the sharp edges and opening up the barrel channel a little. Much nicer in the hand now and the barrel does not touch anywhere. I am looking for Warne bases and rings but can't find any dealers in the Ottawa area. Am going out tomorrow to see what supplies I can pick up locally and what I will have to order.
What load do you shoot?

I shoot 43 grains of VihtaVouri N110 and the 250SST. I use Winchester primers. Will hit a deer like the hammer of Thor.
I have killed a deer with the 250XTP, very effective deer killer, made a FOUR INCH entrance wound.
You ought to see my plastic stock. I put store bought leather recoil pad on it. Then, I made a cheek piece from some deer leather from a deer I killed. I stuffed it with  some strips of a towel. Now I get a good cheek weld, and I like the longer length of pull.
It is one weird looking stock, though.
I want to put a nice walnut stock on it, but the damn thing is so accurate as is that I can't bring myself to change it out.

Great choice Rick, it is the only gun I use for deer.  I have killed deer at 200+ yd's, using 44 gr's of 4759 and Hornady 250gr. SST's with CCI mag. primers. Like you said a person can shoot BP subs. or smokeless. Good luck with your fine choice of muzzleloader.

I have the laminate stock, and stainless steel barrel.  NICE gun.  Im still experimenting with the loads though.  Check out Dougs message boards for the Savage forum.  Lots of information there.
