Saving Boxes for T/C Firearms, et.al. ...why?
« on: February 19, 2007, 05:19:08 AM »
My wife is pressuring me to throw away my empty T/C boxes that I am saving. I have a bunch of firearm boxes and barrel boxes...plus some for other makes...and a few Burris scope boxes. Do you save your boxes? If so, why? Does it really add that much to the value of the item when sold in the future?  ???

My opinion is that will be a problem for the person settling my estate...or, I can wish for them to use it as fuel to start the fire on the wood raft that carries my body out into the lake  8)

Help me and my marriage  ;D

My experience has shown that having the box a pistol or revolver came in only adds to the value.  I can't say the same for T/C's.  So far I've pitched those boxes, partly because I don't intend to sell them.

I do think having the original box adds value, or at least is attractive to a potential buyer.  I always give my boxes to our local gunshop owner as I don't want the stuff around - space limitations, too much junk, and fire hazard.  The gunshop owner loves my "returns".  Like Ramos1212, I buy 'em with the intention of keeping 'em, so I'm glad to give him the boxes.

I keep'em all in the event I want to sell.  I know when buying stuff the box factor always does something for me.... for some reason.

I keep them, they make good boxes to ship guns in.

I tend to believe if the prior owner cared enough to save the box he also took care of the gun. I will pay a bit more for a gun that has the original box.

The boxes do indeed increase value. I have made some money on trades just for having that flimsy cardboard box. Who knows, now that T/C is owned my S&W, the original T/C boxes may some day command a premium.???

I like that, never thought of it that way.

I have sold a lot of used guns and T/C barrels.  I cannot remember one time that a buyer asked me if I had the box.  And I do not sell them any cheaper because I do not have the box but they always seem to go.

"in the original box." has a nice ring to it dontcha think? but like a few others here I bought mine to keep, so I burned the box since I bought the frame without a barrel, didn't like the caliber. it just looked funky to have a frame in a box that originally had a complete firearm in it. I do keep optics boxes however, just in case I need to send it back for repair. I just keep one for all scopes though, since I'm partial to Leupolds I don't think they mind if I send a 3-9 in a 2-7 box as much as if I sent it in a burris box. Plus those "old" boxes might be worth something themselves someday. folks will buy anything "they" think is collectible. if you have a box for a limited edition firearm, remington classics comes to mind, the owner of said model might pay you a premium for that box. I recently saw an auction for a T/C barrel and the owner was asking more than you can get a new one for, the chambering is still available, simply because it had an "old" original box.

I can use the boxes if you're getting rid of them. If you can come up with a shipping price, let me know...
