I had a Corgi/Red Heeler cross that looked like a red Corgi. He was the greatest companion dog I've ever had. He liked to snuffle around in the woods on our walks --keeping me in sight--but, as my wife put it, "he couldn't smell @#^!! with a nose full." I think a kinder explaination is that he was breed to rely on his eyesight not his nose. Fearless little dogs. I had a black bear come along the creek that runs in front of my house. I had some bee hives on our side so I sent Ottis to kinda help the bear along. Ottis bayed him pretty good, staying respectfully on our side of the creek, and the bear stayed on his side and went on. Had the bear crost over, I haven't a doubt but what Ottis would have tried him on. When we hunted in Wyoming, his job was to keep stock --we were on free range-- out of camp. It was quite a sight to see he send a 2000# herd bull over the hill with it's tail in the air.
I don't guess I've done much to answer your question but I think they are champion little dogs.
