Savage Striker

Don't know if this is the right place to post this or if it belongs in the handgunners forum.  My apologies if it doesn't belong.

I'm becoming more and more interested in these guns.  I've been looking for a handgun to take on a whitetail or bear hunt.  I really like the range that these guns are said to have and the looks aren't bad either.  I would really like a .308 to hunt both deer and bear but would also heavily consider a .243 for just deer and varmints.  I guess what draws me more to them is that their different.  The biggest problem now is that nobody has them!!!!  All the gun shops around have said they maybe have seen one or two come through their stores.  Do any of you know how scarce these guns are and where I could go (online or somewhere close to Arkansas) to find one at a reasonable price?  Or if any of you have one that you want to sell just send me a PM.  Thanks

I`ll sell mine for the right price.  ;D I have one in .243, I bought it to replace a .222 Rem. on a Contender frame which I carried when on the tractor or hoe incase a coyote stuck his head out. I wouldn`t be afraid to try black bear with it if it will stablize the heavy round nosed bullets. They are alot of fun, and the muzzle break does reduce muzzle jump a fair amount. Good luck in your quest.

Catfish -
If you're like me everything is for sale at the right price except the wife and kids, of course ;D.  Is the .243 the only one you have shot and what kind of range do you expect out of it?

A black bear with a .243 handgun?!?!  That would be worth telling the grandkids about in the future.

I ran across this post by accident, but I'll throw my two cents worth in anyway.  I've got 4 Strikers.  Got them in .223, .243, 7mm-08, and .308.  Plus, I have a 22-250 barrel that I switch out on the .243.  Each one of them will shoot under 1" groups at 100 yards, so the accuracy is there for long range hunting.  I almost had another one in 300WSM, but my buddy saw it first.  You can usually find one for sale on GunBroker.com, although prices are going up.  If I run across any more, I'll send you a PM, unless it's a 300WSM and in that case, it's going to be mine.  LOL.

Afternoon folks,
I own a striker in .243. Ive been hunting with it here in Ny for Deer about 10 yrs now. I shoot 85gr Barnes over Accurate 2700 powder. You can cover a dime off the bench. Longest shot on a Deer was 210yds according to my rangefinder. I like my 243, but if I was going to do it over,I'd go for something a little bigger, like the 308.
Whether the target is paper, a can, or whatever. The objective is the same- Put it where the hairs cross.

Have found and purchased four in the last month and a half. Two in 22-250, one in 308, and one in 7-08. I really think that they shoot as good as the xp's and don't cost as much. This is the last one in 22-250 I bought. As you can see it is different. ;D
