Disc Elite
« on: February 25, 2007, 04:08:36 PM »
I have a disc original and was wondering if jumping to a disc elite is that much of a step up to justify the spending. I like my disc but figured if the elite is that much better it must be a heck of a gun. Also does anyone know a place to buy an elite for a good price? Thanks

How good does your rifle shoot?  If you are getting the accuracy you want, maybe you can come up with a better use for the money....what am I saying, what's better than a new rifle?    ;D  I've had several Elites, and all of them would do under an inch with the right loads.  I like the stock on the new guns a whole lot better than the radical monte carlo on the older rifles.  A lot of people don't like the red jackets, but they don't bother me.  Much easier to keep track of and handle primers in the field, and they do provide that waterproof fit to the nipple.  I see them on gunbroker for under $300 NIB if you are patient, they are on there all the time for $350 NIB or just a bit more.  Keep in mind that the original retail on this rifle was over $500 for the blued/synthetic, and close to $600 for the stainless versions.

Like KYELKHUNTER, I don't like the stock design of the original DISC either.  The ELITE has excellent balance and great pointability for off-hand shooting... probably due to the tapered barrel.  I also have the domed breach plug which greatly reduces blowback and makes for easy cleanup of the breach and bolt face.

I liked the ELITE so much, I purchased another one when I heard Knight was discontinuing them.  However, in a moment of weakness I sold it my buddy at my cost.  He recently sighted in with his favorite load: 300 gr Hornady XTP's (.452), Harvester sabots, and 85 grs of Triple 7... then proceded to shoot a 3/4" group @ 100 yds from a makeshift bench with sandbags.  Our other buddy's  jaw dropped and said "Sh**, I can't do that with my Encore" .  The ELITE is not finicky, it gives at least good accuracy with many loads and excellent accuracy with some combos.  Most accurate MZ I've ever owned.  (i.e. T/C Omega, White Whitetail Hunter, White Super 91, Knight MK-85)

I've been watching Guns America and Gun Broker too.... but only see the .45 cals .
Good Luck with your search... they are worth it !
