Cynergy?
« on: April 18, 2007, 06:24:40 PM »
Anyone have any personal experience with a Browning Cynergy?  They are some what unconventional but appear to have some real features that could make the non-traditional appearance acceptable?
I like my BT-99 but it is "hard" to shoot double with it! :D

Only one word comes to mind when I think of them. UGLY.
I've not fired one but have handled them and do not think they would fit me very well and there is no way I could get by the ugly to buy one. But one guy at the skeet range where I shoot has one and seems well pleased with it. The way that recoil pad thing is designed it sure looks like it should be effective in taming recoil, I will give it that.

Thanks Bill,

I may not go as far as ugly, but my first response was similar.  But the XT seemed too plastic appearing with that gloss finish for me.

The one I handled seemed to come right on for me, and the recoil issue would be a big benefit as I am trying to hook the wife and/or teen (that may not be really bright?) and the 20 works but limits them some.

The XT, (if you buy the one with the adjustable comb), has  advantages if you are shooting trap, with others in the family using the same gun. Gun fit. With the pad and comb adjustments, you can fit it to most shooters. They are the workhorse of the double trap break guns..

The Cynergy on the other hand, is slowly growing acceptance, as it takes trap shooters a while to break from tradition. I still only see the odd one at the ranges I attend competition shoots at.

I was not attracted to the appearance of the Cynergy.  I have always liked traditional O/U's - particularly nice wood, flush muzzles, engraving, schnabel forends, and Prince of Wales grips.  But - I'm changing, because I have some pretty guns that don't fit me well and I can't shoot them very well.  I have been shooting shotguns for almost 50 years and trying to make me fit the gun, instead of understanding how the gun should fit me.  I've shot a lot of game in my life - but I've sure missed a lot too.  I recently started shooting clays and found I really love it, but also have to work a lot to change my form, wring out the old bad habits (rifle shooting a shotgun), and I am at the point of wanting to either get my guns fitted to me or try a Cynergy with the adjustable comb and LOP.  The Cynergy looks like a well-engineered shotgun and may help me in my efforts to be a better shooter.  Also, recoil is becoming more of an issue to me, as I get older my shoulder seems to be getting more fragile.  The looks are starting to grow on me (slightlly, very slightly).  If you look on their website, they have some (newer) models with traditional stocks also - not quite so radical, more like the 525.  But, I think for the improvements I am looking for, I need the more radical looking design - which I am not attracted to, but foremost I want to shoot better.
The O/U of mine that I shoot the best with is a Ruger Red Label with the synthetic stock, target grey metal.  It sure isn't pretty either, but the stock dimensions are slightly different than my wood stocked Red Label and the balance is different.  I'm shooting it better as well.  Studying the dimensions of the Cynergy and the adjustabilility, I think it might work out well for me.  I'm studying on it.
