I want to load some 44 sp loads using 240g lwc for my 5.5' Redhawk. This is my field hunting carry pistol. I have not had much luck with 2400. Also I could use some input on Win sthp 210 bullets that I load for my truck gun a 2" 44 sp.

I have a Ruger SBH 7.5 inch barrel and I like to use 44 special loads for it when I'm carrying it afield. I use a 240 SWC hardcast bullet with 5.0 grains of Bullseye and kind of like that load. It will take a whitetail deer very easily out to about 50 yards.

The Classic Skeeter load for .44 Special is 7.5 grs of Unique behind a 250 Keith SWC (Lyman 429421). I have shot a "boat load" of this in my .44 specials over the years. It will give you 850-950 fps depending on barrel length, etc. Superb load. Has to rank up there with the best defense load in the cupboard...

This, of course, is with .44 Special cases. The loaded round also works well in my .44 magnums although I tend to shoot .44 Specials in 44. Special handguns and .44 mags in .44 magnum handguns.

That may change for me, tho', as I have a new Taurus Tracker .44 magnum that will mostly be using the Skeeter load.

I have for years used 10.6 grains of Unique behind a 240 grain semi wadcutter in a 44 Mag case for reduced loads in my 44 magnum. This is a bit spiffy as 44 Specials go but pretty mild for a 44 Mag. It clocks right at 1000 fps from my 6.5 inch S&W 29. Some gripe that Unique burns dirty but I figure you are going to clean the gun anyway.

I usually shoot the 429421 with 7.0 grains of Unique. This load is quite adequate for whitetail and pleasant to shoot.

I have been loading and shooting the Skeeter Skelton load (7.5 Unique) with the 429421 cast bullet for most of 40 years. It is my one 'go to' load for all my .44 spl chores. It will do anything asked of it if you put the bullet where it is supposed to go. You should ask Lloyd Smale if it is accurate enough! 44 Man.

For light indoor target work I use W-231 with a laser cast 240 gr SWC and 4.8 gr of W-231 powder. Works good!

The laser cast manual lists Unique, Titegroup and HP-38 as other powders to use with their 240 gr SWC bullet.

For many years I used Bullseye powder also. Check your lyman manual for the most accurate loads for this powder. It does smoke a lot and its a bit dirty to handle but its an old standby that is very accurate in 45 acp and 44 special for target work.

I can see 231 in a 44 sp load/240 hard cast @ 950-1000. Which for me is a good in field carry round. Any one try LiL-Gun for this cal?
