I hope I don't regret this... ???
« on: February 24, 2007, 03:30:55 AM »
I found a .308 Rossi at Gander Mountain for $149... on the used rack... turns out it's brand new... decided to have my wife go by and put it on layaway...

I feel guilty about it though! ;)    buying the cheaper foreign version of the handi... but that $60-70 saved makes the difference in being able to get a rifle at all before the next 6 months...

So please forgive me handi faithful, for I have fallen...

Hopefully it'll be a decent shooter, even if it's 2 MOA(hopefully better), that's worth $150....

Good news is, since I'm buying such a cheap rifle, the wife is letting me get better glass for it, just have to wait a while... :p  I can picture it now... $150 foreign rifle, with a $200 Leupold on top... :D

never apologize about a good deal. I bet there aren't too many of us who don't have guns other than Handis

While they are a little different than a Handi, I highly suggest checking out the FAQs and apply them to your rifle. Seems to me they have a tendency for rough barrels, and you may need to polish the bore like crazy... but it will be worth it ;)
And moxgrove is right, we all have "other" rifles. I love 'em all, but my Handi's are a lot of fun.

I'm sure it will be a serviceable rifle and even more so after tinkering...

I think my biggest thing is that it's a foreign made copy of the handi... I've always said I wouldn't buy a foreign rifle, but I can't pass up the savings...

it will be several weeks before I get to shoot it.  I suppose I could put off the cell phone bill, but the wife is nixing that Idea... :D could probably try shooting it with the plastic "iron sights" but I can't get my eye low enough to match the sight-plane....  High Mount rings with a Bushnell Banner(though I'd rather have a leupold) will probably be what I do for it but it will take some time to get authorization from my purchasing manager... ;)

This is very true! While my Ultra 25-06 is now my main mule/antelope rifle, I have a Tikka 25-06 scoped and ready to go if/when the accuracy of the NEF drops off. Enjoy your new toy.

Yeah, I would never own a foreign made gun.  Well, except for Beretta or Tikka or Sako or Uberti or Taurus or Howa or...  ;D  I hope you got a real shooter.  Let us know.

Around here, the Purchasing Officer(also known as the Chief Finance Officer...CFO) usually evens up. ;)  Hair...cut, color, set...$100.  And then there's the nails...$25. ;D ;D

It's just kind of an understanding...she looks good and feels good, and I get to have more guns.  Actually, I get the better end of the deal...nothin' makes me feel better than to be out with MY GAL when she's all dolled up. :-*

No reason to regret a thing. A good deal is a good deal.  ;)  We'll be expecting a range report soon.

No need to aplolgize for saving money.  You have to have your prorities.  Even with MY user name, I haven't even owned a Handi for the last 2 years, until now that is ;).  Gonna build a 38-55 target rifle for BPCR.

Ya got a rifle, and you can go shoot, that's what's important.
God, Family, and guns, in that order!

The "wife is letting" you do something?  ::) ???

Guys it sure seems to me a lot of folks have made drastically bad decisions about life partners when you have to be "let" do something and have to get permission for what you want to do. Sorry I guess I'm old school but women are not supposed to be telling men what they can and can't do. Around my house I'm the one wearing the pants.

I don't ask permission for anything I do, hey she's all over the site ask if you wish. For Christmas I decided to buy me a nice Browning XS grade .410 O/U skeet gun just cuz I felt I deserved it. While there I saw a Krieghoff K80 in an Americase with Briley tube set that had the most beautiful wood I've ever seen on ANY SHOTGUN ANYWHERE. The next day I went back and got it. Mrs. GB even went with me to pick it up. I sure didn't ask for or need any permission to get either of the guns.

God Bless ya GB!!!

I know allotta guys have that problem, but with my wife and I, it's a mutual respect thing.  I don't buy $1000 guns on a whim, and she doesn't buy $1000 purses on a whim... it goes both ways.  We're both headstrong and it can be a bit rocky at times, but we've both agreed that there sometimes are more important things than rifles and purses.  We live off less than $30K a year.  I know it's more than a lot of people, but for us it gets pretty tight.  And to make matters worse we're tryin to buy a house, so we keep each other in check.

When my wife and I got married and decided on a budget we budgeted a decent amount per month for spending and hobby money. This has kept how many guns I have bought a non issue. It works great. There is enough to work through in a marriage besides finances. Charlie

I spent half that much on guns in December of last year alone.  :o ;D

I shouldn't say anything... God knows if I had it, I'd spend like that too... probably worse... ;)

I know how that goes.  I was classiflying all the spending I did last year to try to figure out where I had room for improvement.  Turns out, I spent  about 10% of my income on guns & gun related stuff.  :o

But, that's the one nice thing about being divorced: no arguments about money and I can only blame the guy in the mirror if I spend too much $$$
