Encore - recoil question-
« on: May 11, 2003, 12:09:28 PM »
I just shot my 209X50 pistol for the first go around. Main load was a Rem 240gr (44 pistol) bullet over 2 Triple 7 pellets (100gr eq.) It went off with authority! Question is: How would the recoil compare to a "normal" 454 Casull?
Also, I sent the frame back to T/C and they lightened the trigger, but not nearly enough. It's hard it draw out its potential with a "lawyer trigger" Where should I go from here?
And, Who makes the best Trigger Spur? I see alot of makes on Ebay ect.

You need to contact Mike Bellm for a replacement trigger spring or complete trigger job. Mike has an advertisement on the Graybeard site somewhere, I think. If not, just do an internet search with his name.

You might also contact James Henry at 760-253-4497. He reportedly does excellent work, quick, and reasonable.

Good luck,
Fred

I installed a #4 spring from bellm and it was pretty easy , My trigger pull is now 30 oz and is pretty fair as target pull and maybe a little light as a hunting trigger.
I would think you have a very noiceable difference in the recoil from the blackpowder load to a .454(stronger) but do not have first hand experiance .

Go with either Jim Henry or Fred at Bullberry for the trigger and frame tuning.   Both do excellent work and will make the trigger what you want it.    You will find no ads for that other guy here on GBO now, or ever.

My short 454 Casull Encore was much more punishing with full house loads (260's pushed by a case full of H-110) than any of my Contender JDJ's, including the 375JDJ (the Encore was about a pound heavier pistola too).   FWIW, the 375 produces about 10#'s more recoil than the 454 did - it was the 454's torque that was the culprit.

HTH - YMMV
Evolution at work. Over two million years ago the genus Homo had small cranial capacity and thick skin to protect them from their environment. One species has evolved into obese cranial fatheads with thin skin in comparison that whines about anything and everything as their shield against their environment. Meus
