Glenfield Model 30
« on: February 10, 2007, 11:09:35 AM »
I picked this one up for a project.  I plan on refinishing the stock a dark red, and putting either a scope (or peep sight) and a 1" leather sling on it.

That is a very beautiful Glenfield 30... I personally would leave the stock alone  ;D

I have one just like that.  I shot my first deer with it and my grandfather gave it to me that Christmas.  Just a plain jane but to me it's priceless!!  Take good care of that old gun and it'll take care of you.

I think that I'd leave it alone too.  I've never seen one that looks that good.  Most of the one's I've seen are dinged and scratched pretty good.

It looks like I'm going to have to leave it alone.  I can't get the forearm off. ;D

What caliber is that?  I would expect 30-30, but with the half magazine I wonder.

I agree with the others: it looks good like it is.

I have a Marlin 30AW which is a plane jane 336, but the sucker shoots, so it stays!

It is a .30-30.  The Truoil that someone finished the stock with, has some runs in it.  It is a serviceable finish.

Would steel wool over those runs do the trick? And then re-oil .... ?

I think this Glenfield may end up being my favorite levergun.

Not yet, I have to drive an hour to the range.  I just really like the way it looks and handles.

I installed a Bushnell Banner 1.5-4.5x32mm scope on it yesterday in some low Simmons rings that I had left over from a Handi Rifle swap.  This is a nice compact little scope.  I got it second hand for $50.00 including shipping from a guy on the Marlin Forum.  I also installed a leather carry strap from simplyrugged.com
