First, welcome aboard!

Second, in the 17HMR the Hornady/Rem rounds shoot best in most rifles of my acquaintence. For me, the CCI won't feed, won't shoot and won't disintegrate.  :(  Not much choice involved when I buy ammo!

I've never heard of them (V-Max's) tumbling or keyholing. It's such a stubby little bullet that understabilizing them would be unlikely. They DO however, take off for parts unknown after encountering something as inconsequential as a full-blossom dandelion! Not to be a wiseass but are you sure you haven't hit something? Has the bore been scrubbed lately? Can't imagine how else something like that could happen .....

Cheers!

Thats a wierd one. Im shooting Contenders in 17HMR and have very little difference with accuracy or point of impact between the different brands. What kind of rifle are you shooting?  KN

I have to say that I am probably one of Hornady's best customers when it comes to the 17HMR.  I have shot countless rounds at paper targets and Montana gophers.  I have never seen a keyhole in any paper.  In my gun, a 17v Marlin, they both shoot just the same.  But if you're talking gophers, the CCI doesn't hold a candle to the Hornady.  They don't seem to expand as well.  The V-Max looks like someone took a sledge hammer and squashed the litter critter's guts out!!!

A good solid hit at 50yds will just about tear an average sized prarie bog in half. Ya gotta love it.   KN
