all in all.
« on: February 27, 2007, 02:19:30 PM »
I have picked up a lot of info on this forum and I finally decided to get another H+R,I wanted a savage 10fp in 308 but I really want a shorter overall length so I was thinking a survivor in 308 or something along them lines. The only question I have is all in all on average what is the most accurate line of H+R rifles.I really need a good truck/tripod stand rifle for moderate ranges, that I can take out in the rougher weather and not feely crappy about it like when I take my A-Bolt 7mm Weatherby mag, call me goofy I really don't like getting my firearms wet,I don't know why.
beer,check ammo,check gun,DAMMIT,I knew I forgot somethin!!

Over all most accurate of calibers offered? Seems to me these:

-22 Hornet..with the regular weight seemingly the less prone to trouble, and the SuperLight more so.
-204 Ruger, both 22" and 24" bull barrels seem to do very well..
-223 Rem, all lengths and weights
-243 Win,22" and 24" bull barrels
-25-06 Rem, 26" barrels
-280 Rem, 26" barrels
-30-30 Win
-30-06 UltraComps...and for that matter the 270 UltraComps...
-357 Mag
-45-70 Gov..all lengths

These seem to be among the more accurate calibers offered in a Handi.
Though I am sure there are many that have other barrels that give great accuracy.....these seem to be among the better bets with several calibers having long throats and giving troublesome loadings.

Not to throw a stick in the spokes here but ... did you know that .308 10FP comes in a 20" barrel too? The most accurate rifle I have ever owned is my Savage 10FP .223 ... but only after I replaced the stock with a B&C stock from Midway.
