7mm-08 and 45LC
« on: March 13, 2007, 02:35:28 PM »
;DSent my 7mm-08 Handi back to H&R with a defective barrel on Nov 11. It came back today with nice trigger and an extractor.
With it came the classic carbine barrel I ordered in 45LC. 20 inches with extractor. Slugged 6" from breech, 6" from muzzle and passed one all the way through. To my surprise they all mic'd the same at .4525. Now to get to the range if I can find it in the snow.

Bishopgrandpa,

If I may ask, what awas defective about your 7mm-08 barrel?

Drilled off center?  Oversize?  Undersize?  Scope base holes drilled off center?

Slugs from my daughter's 7mm-08 measure .286 or larger & I'm debating whether to send it back.

Thanks,

Cordially,

MTGlass

Well then it sounds like there doing the 7mm/08's now and on to the 444's next.
What's the effective range that a handi can spit this round with enough
retained energy to knock down a medium sized deer or Mt. goat. 200 yards?

The 7mm-08 is good a lot farther than most sportsmen should shoot!! Remington shows ballistics for a 24" barrel, but it's still waaaay out there, over 1000lbs energy at 500yds. ;)

Everything sounds good about that barrel, except one thing...does it come drilled and tapped too? Or is it strictly an open sights proposition?  Thanks.

It's drilled and tapped from other reports, see xhare's post in the 45 Colt Availability sticky above. ;)

Open buckhorn sights and drilled and tapped for the 45LC. Will have to check the new 7mm-08 for bore size.
