Basic gunsmithing tools
« on: February 22, 2007, 10:14:53 AM »
Whenever I've needed to make adjustments to sights, etc., I've either borrowed tools from the range (after asking what tools I needed) or took the gun to a gunsmith.  I think I'd like to invest in a basic gunsmithing tool kit.  What should be in it?  I'm thinking a set of hollow-ground screwdrivers, brass/nylon hammer, perhaps some punches, etc.  Would like to have your input.  Thanks.

All the things you list plus you might look at one of the screw sets. I personally purchase the Pachmyar set, but that was personal preference. You can't find these screws at a hardware store. Brass punches in addition to steel and you might consider a set of roll pin punches. A good bench block such as midway's is also good for working on sights.

my best purchase was a set of screwdriver bits from brownells, it came with 30 or so bits and 2 handles, very handy and keeps me from buggering up the screws on the guns i work on.with a few misc files and whetstones yu can do about anything yu need up to a point.
