O.K. the Mauser 8mm is 57 mm long. The '06 is, metric, 7.62 x 63 as I recall. POINT: If you insist on loading 220 grain bullets out to touch the rifling in a standard chamber... Magazine is too short. If you are willing to load more common loads and be happy even if you have to deep seat a bullet now and again, no problem. Some 98's were coverted after WW II for allies and in the Belgium production there was a shallow groove cut in the rear of the front receiver ring so that you could extract unfired military 172 grain boat tail loads without hanging up on the front receiver ring... This is really splitting hairs. No reason you should not go for it. Great rifle if you want and budget permits custom. Mark X at wholesale was always cheaper after all the work was done, but that was "off the rack" factory... Your bucks. Luck. Happy trails.
