To be real honest , i hope not , i would much rather see H&R / NEF put the extra work into the rounds that they already have in production , case in point the 44 mag over bore problem or the 35 W problem .

I would doubt it. The 308 Winny outperforms it.

The 308 Marlin offers nothing in a Handi that the .308 Winchester or 30-06 doesn't bring to the table, as Stimpy said, it would be far better for H&R to work on the calibers that folks want than to offer a levergun specific caliber in a Handi. ;)

Why bother with a ".308 Marlin?"

Either stick with the .308 Win, or offer barrels also in .300 Sav or .30-40Krag.

Actually, there'd probably be lots of folks who'd want the .30-40, even if they already have a .30-30, .308W and / or .30/06 - or all three!

..... Then, ..... if NEF offered the .30-40K, no doubt some shooters would insist on having ALL FOUR!

But again, why bother reinventing the wheel with a .308 Marlin?  I'd take a .307 or .356 Winnie before choosing yet another new round.   ;)

Better yet, spend the money on improving the manf. process to tighter tolerances, eliminating the occassional dissappointed customer(or at least reducing the occurance), and providing the bedrock for a much more convenient barrel program.....

But I guess everyone has their druthers...

I really love this stock but I heard on another thead back a week or so that they want $160.00 for it. I think that is steep.

Only way I guess I could see NEF/H&R chambering this "new" 308 Marlin would be the push form Marlin themselves to promote it...but even then it wouldn't seem very reasonable as it was stated it's built for lever actions.
I agree, those stocks are awesome. I just hope the price goes down, that's a good down payment on a  new Handi, or a couple barrels, heck a scope even.
However, is it just me or does the regular laminated forearm leave a little to be desired when attached with this new stock ::)

I don't even think we needed it in the Marlin.  We already have the .30-30 and the .307 Winchester.  I'd like to have a .30-40 Handi too.

A agree completely about the forarms.  I don't like the shape of any of the forarms for the handi's.  Not for the Rossi I'm buying either... I'll likely try to shape my own sometime. Wish they would make one in the squared off bottomed but angled tip... if that makes sense at all...  ;)

You mean more of a Beaver Tail design? If you want to try your hand at making one, here's a good start on some extra wood:

Yea now that you mention it. I think they look a little small. They should be wider and thicker.
Only way I guess I could see NEF/H&R chambering this "new" 308 Marlin would be the push form Marlin themselves to promote it...but even then it wouldn't seem very reasonable as it was stated it's built for lever actions.

I'm thinking the best way to explain it is to show it....

this is a good indication of what i think is a good looking stock, although I don't care much for the "grain" in that example....

http://www.rifle-stocks.com/hardwood_grades.htm  -- on that page I like the "select grade" the best

thanks for the link myarmour, but I think I'll try my skills on some old 2 by's before I start paying for nice wood... ;)  be a shame to screw up a piece of wood I paid for...(i'm cheap like that... ;) )

no i don't think they will bring it out. but i wouldn't see anything wrong with putting it in there barrel program. Who no's it might be a good shooting in the handy. On this point i would like to see H&R bring there barrel into a higher level like tc's. yeah you can't put some of the higher pressure calibers in a hr but look what they did with the tc contender.just take a look at fox ridge. the more custom calibers they have the more shooters will look there direction. just thoughts!

I take it you mean we have the 30-30 and the 307...but not necessarily in a Marlin correct...? Because if you do...you would have a very unique rifle...since the 307 wasn't ever put into production in the Marlin...and this is the reasoning and desire for this round to be developed..and used in them...

...I wouldn't wimper a bit if they could get away with chambering for the .30 TC, just as much punch as an .06 and gets there quicker than a .308.

It could have been.  There was no need to invent a new cartridge.

But it wasn't...now was it...For those wanting it in a Handi is the hypothetical $64 dollar question...and would really be a personal matter...If they did introduce it...I would hope they would at least make sure the chamber spec's were correct...but I am thinking more like the others and wishing they correct what they have before introducing anything else...

Sluggo...the 30TC would get my nod if choosing between these 2 as well...

So wait, I heard sombody say that they wish they would make that thumbhole stock in lefty. They dont? and Will they if they dont have it yet? 160$ is a lot but it is sure a sweet looking peice. How many of you guys have made your own forearm? I would love to see some pics of em! How would you know if its (the homemade forearm) was too heavy for the barrel lug? I heard on the forum a while back about too much weight being put on the lug and it broke the welds and they had to send it back in to H&R.
