Has anyone tried this combination?  If so, how did it performs?  Any complaints?  How is the recoil compared to a standard 240 gr JSP?

300 grain XTP, 21 grains 296, a magnum primer and a heavy crimp will keep 3 shots in 3/4 in at 50 yards out of 14 inch stainless contender barrel with 2X T/C scope

While I haven't shot the Garretts I have shot handloads that equaled them or maybe even slightly exceeded them.  Don't be concerned about the recoil.  They will rear back with more authority than the 240"s but not enough to make a good shooter go bad unless you are recoil sensitive to begin with which would make me wonder about ones ability with the 240"s.
Just remember to keep the sights aligned and ease back on the trigger and let the gun fire and you won't have any problems provided you can group the 240's.

I am not particularly sensitive to recoil, I can group the 240's just fine.  I have even hunted with the Encore pistol in 308 win, shot the pistol in 30-06.  However, Garretts web page stated that this load was approaching the power of the 454 Casull.  I have shot the Encore pistol in 454 and it to me, is just not fun to shoot.  Just wanting to make sure that this wouldnt be the case here.

I think if you will read Garretts web site the velocities don't come close to the 454 Casull.
He meant penetration capabilities.  But he is comparing his hard cast to Freedom Arms jacketed SP ammo.  A 454 340 hard cast at 1600 is better than a 44 cal 310 at 1375.
