.22 Versa Pack barrel on Topper (SB1) frame.
« on: March 19, 2007, 04:27:44 PM »
I posted this on the Rim Fire Forum but thought it would be of interest to some here as well since it pertains to the SB1 frame.

The .22lr Versa Pack barrel I purchased from Spanky9773 arrived this afternoon.  I'm happy to report that it locks up and functions perfectly on my Topper (SB1) frame.  I ran a half dozen Remington Thunderbolts threw it just to test it for function and experienced no misfires or any other problems.  The barrel lug and outside diameter of the barrel at the breach appear to be identical to my original .410 barrel's as far as I can tell.  This pretty much confirms my suspicions that the Versa Pack frame is a standard SB1 frame.  I will give another report when I have had time to do some accuracy testing with it.

It's strange the "mystery" around the Vera-Pack receiver, as apparently NEF won't fit any barrels to it.
Though it only figures that it would be an SB-1... Weird decisions being made over there :-\
I look forward to seeing a range report on how it performs for you.

I'm glad the barrel locks up good for you Brett!!  Like I said, it is pretty much brand new, I only fired it about 10 times. Should make you a dandy little combo setup now.    ;)

Some more food for thought... If a Versa Pack barrel fits and works properly on a shotgun receiver then it stands to reason that other shotgun barrels would also fit and function on a Versa Pack frame.   So for instance if you had a Varsa Pack .22/.410 you could most likely add a .410, 16ga., 20ga., 28ga., 12ga, or even muzzle loader barrel to the Versa Pack.    :D

Yeap, thats the "mystery" of it all.
Why would NEF/H&R sell this receiver with a combo and NOT fit any other barrels to it, mainly the shotgun and ML barrels?
It stands to reason that they wouldn't make a special receiver all to them selves just for this combo. And the 410 runs at or more pressure than others check it out over here:

I guess it's another "Enter At Own Risk" kinda things.
Still I think it's not much different than the regular SB-1's  :-\

so would that .22lr barrel also work on ANY SB1 frame, say the Pardner frame?
I didn't think there was any difference in the Topper vs. the Pardner frame, is that correct?

If so, I may start looking for a .22lr versa pak barrel too.

Jal5,

Yes, that barrel will work on the Pardner frame.

I had it on my .410 Pardner frame before I sold it.   ;)

Spanky.
