Haven't heard from Rdfx on this one, maybe he's stuck in a drift somewhere. I'm in west WI, just north of Eau Claire. We got about 18" or so, pending on who you talk to. I've been dragging my sorry butt and sled to check beaver sets and hoping for some snow, but this is a little much. My snow shoes have gotten a workout this past week. Clear weather today, maybe things will start moving again.
If a tree falls in the woods and my wife is not there to hear it...is it still my fault?

Marsh skiis are longer and wider than say downhill skiis  like 6 inches wide and 8 foot long to give you more support on muck ect.  Without clouds your Sh*t out of luck. Setting traps and with marsh skiis or marshshoes you can go anytime.  Unlike you Newt where  you have to wait for clouds.  You can only clean a turtle once Newt and looking at those empty shells  dont put $$ in the wallet for the outboard or trapping truck................................... ;D.................................

Hey Rdfx, speaking of snow melt for spring. Did you notice alot of abandoned ponds this fall, very low water levels, etc, in places where there usually is beaver? In a case like this, do you think they will move up or down a creek? I scouted areas late fall and found several empty flat tail houses. I followed both ways and couldn't tell which direction they went. Some were in spring fed ponds and some on creeks. The only thing that stuck around were a few rats. Where'd they go????

With low water the Bvr Mcburgers  were  very suceptible to wolves and  other preditors.   If water  disappates and food sources  disappear, bvrs will move either up or down stream looking for   three necessitys, water-food-shelter.  So it could be  either  way or completely out of the watershed.
