7mm-08 loads for Savage Striker

Hello all...I'm finally getting the trigger straightened out on my Striker pistol (had a heck of a time with my Rifle Basic's Trigger)...and now need a good load for my gun. I am interested in a accurate load with a Barnes-X bullet and wish to know what the rest of you have been successful with...I'm up here in Alaska, and plan on using it this spring on a coastal blackie...Thanks![/b]

A load I used for everything up to mulies was 40.0 grain of H-4895 with a 140 grain Ballistic Tip.  This was a 14 inch XP.

How does it shoot?  Have you groped it yet?  I've been thinking of a bolt pistol but can't decide.

The triggers coming from savage are very poorly put together! As a single shot pistol...If I were you, I'd go with a TC.

I have used this caliber for many years with great results. It is my favorite one in the long pistols. The Speer 130 gr Boat tail is great for deer and hogs with 43.5 gr of Varget. The 139 gr hornady Interbond works great on just about anything behind 43.5 gr of Varget. Both of these get about 2600 from my Encore 15 in. For bear up to elk I use the 139 gr Hornady  and 140 gr nosler partition behind 43.5 gr of Varget and the Speer 145 gr hotcore behind 41 gr of H4895. All loads are with standard Win primers and Rem Peters brass. I like the Varget and H4895 extreme powders because they do not seem to loose or gain velocity as much in hot or extremely cold weather and are easily ignited. They also have given me the best velocity in this caliber in my pistol. For the bear I would suggest the 139 gr boattail in hornady load. It worked very well on a 500 lb  boar Hog for me with complete penetration at about 100 yards. I use either the interlock or interbond on all of the big stuff in my 7-08 with great results. :-)

This gun looks very attractive to me.  That B.C. of .530 in the 154 gr. bullets looks really nice.  I'd like to have one for deer/pig hunting but that trigger problem is a big turnoff.  Savage Gunsmithing will fix the problem with a new trigger and polishing for $150 but DOGGONITT!!  A guy just shouldn't have to take a $600 gun right out of the box and send it off to get the trigger fixed!  Maybe Savage will wake up and smell the coffee on this one.

No...it appears that Savage Arms did what alot of gun makers do and gave-up producing what could have been a very fine bolt hand-gun. They had done everything right/correct...except that lousy trigger! Remington XP's were to me the best of the best...as far as accuracy, dependablity, and one crisp trigger. But instead of producing a few to handgunners that wanted and appreciated them...they put away their tooling...for the dollar could be made easier elsewhere. Then there is Weatherby...come-on folks...the shooting public wants hand cannons...handguns that launch large bullets at high velocities...at large critters! Oh for one of those sweet double-barreled Howdah Pistols of yesteryear...
