Does anyone know the height of the front sight on the .38-55 Target Model?

Capt,

Just measured mine and from the top of the barrel to the top of the globe sight it measures .771 inches.  This was measured at the front of the sight, the rear has a screw in holder to hold different aperatures.

Not sure if this particular measurement is helpful, if not just PM me, I have a dial caliper and a Target Model and will measure anywhere you want.  (I replaced the rear sight with a scope but left the front sight in place)

Sight height, as Bernie said, is measured to the top of the post, not the top of the globe, H&R uses the .494" and .584" 17A sights, but you can also get a .404",.465" and a tall .854". I use the .404 in my BC with the Williams FP.

I'm using the Smith Ent. rear sight.  With the ladder in the up position, the bottom two positions do not work due to the end of the slot covering the hole.  With my load the rifle basically is sighted at 200 yards using the buckhorn and the front post.  I have to use the insert that has the bead on it to lower it enough to hit the target at 100 yards.  Since the front sight is the highest one available, I guess I'll be filing the bottom of the slot in the ladder to get the other two clicks.  I know Lyman makes another sight that is bigger than the 17A.

Well, now I can use the 2 bottom notches.  I used a 3/16 file to lengthen the slot, which now clears the hole in the sight.  I'll be trying it again at the range later in the week.  Sometimes it pays to think something out.
