6.5 Ingram
« on: September 08, 2007, 04:34:05 PM »
I recently picked up a custom 15" Contender barrel. The only marking on it is stamped on the left side of the lug and all it says is 6.5 Ingram. I did a chamber cast and the chamber looks similar to the 6.5 TCU. I did a search online and come up with no information what so ever. Has anyone heard of this cartridge? Or have experence with this cartridge? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Van

First, the Ingram cartridges were based on the .223 case with different shoulder angles than the T/CU cartridges....otherwise they were almost identical.

Second, be very careful with that barrel!  AFAIK all Ingram barrels used arc welded lugs, and these were known to break under use!  Not too pleasant to pull the trigger and watch your barrel take off downrange - happened at a silhouette match I attended.  I'm not certain I'd use one, but if you decide to do so, have it magnafluxed first by someone who knows how to do it.  Good luck.

Lone Star,
Thank you for that piece of advice! I picked the barrel up at a very good price and intended to rechamber it to something else if I couldn't find dies for it. But now I'll rethink what to do with it.
Thanks again,
Van
