concrete truck!!!!!!!!!!!
« on: April 19, 2007, 07:24:17 PM »
Today we had a concrete truck get stuck. It was on a pretty good grade going up hill it made it close to the top before it got stuck. Last week I pulled a fork lift up the same hill with my 2003   2500 HD Chevy Silverado. I knew I could not really pull this concrete truck but just thought I may be able to give it some help to get over the top of the grade. The way it turned out was I broke my towing strap 5 times before we gave up. I still think I could have done it if I had a chain. I did budge him good a few times before the strap broke. Everyone on the job said it was a good try but the strap was not up to it. I did pull a tractor trailer out of some snow a couple years ago but it was not on an up grade.

General Motors would love to use your experiences in a truck commercial. They pay $$ too. :)

That pretty neat but it sounds like you need bigger recovery strap, preferably one of the huge rope types. You still may not have pulled it but at least the rope would not have broke. It can get dangerous when them things turn loose. The ropes take up a lot of room which is a pain but if your gonna keep tugging on the big stuff you'll need it. Whether it's a strap or a rope, always stow it out of the sun and keep it clean.  You would have had a better chance with a winch they will pull way more than you can can with the truck. The last Chevy wrecker we had was a 92 HD with twin 16000# hydraulic Ramsey's It pulled more stuck semi rigs out than I can count. I'm talking really stuck I'd get some really funny looks when I'd pull up to a stuck rig in the little wrecker And more than once the driver would say you wont do any good with that little toy truck. But they stand there wide eyed in disbelief when the little giant slayer peeled them out of the hole.  Only once did it ever fail on a tractor trailer with all 6 axels buried to the hubs. It did break the frame trying though.  My new International will out pull it and out haul it,  because it's a lot larger truck so it doesn't impress me as much as the little Chevy that didn't know it was little

Great story. I don't know how many 1,000's of pounds that concrete truck weighd but I figured I would give it a try.

Dalescarpentry, is your truck a duramax? I have an '03 with duramax and Allison transmission and it pulls like a train. It spends most of it's time dragging a 30' King OfThe Road 5th wheel trailer. I've also used it to kill gophers. Just get the ground good and wet around their dens and drive back and forth and squash 'em.

My son-in-law has an '06. I really like the manual shift mode on the Allison. It would really be good pulling a trailer in the mountains.

It has the 6 liter Vortech. When I put it in 4 wheel low it seems like I could pull the world if I could get a rope around it. In 4 wheel low it just crawls. ;D
