Steel BLR '81 in 7-08 rare?
« on: February 12, 2007, 04:22:39 PM »
Picked up a nice steel BLR in 7-08 Sunday. I picked it up because it was a nice BLR in a good but different caliber. But I saw on gunsamerica a guy with a big price claiming them to be limited production and rare. Does anyone know the production numbers of 7-08, or if its rare or not?
Thanks

A steel receiver BLR 81 in 7/08 would be a great rifle to have. They are out there but not seen in every gunshop.
If I found one I would shoot it and hunt with it and enjoy it.
I do not consider it rare, just hard to find as the owners of them hang on to them

I have a nice one that I purchased through Gunbroker.com back in 2003.  It never occurred to me that it is a rare chambering - uncommon, perhaps, but not rare.  Mine is accurate and, like all of my BLRs, a joy to handle in the field.

A co-worker of mine has one in 284 winchester - I've have only heard of one other in that caliber and would probably consider it to be a rare one.

Enjoy that BLR!

1987 .243 '81 BLR
1991 7mm-08 '81 BLR
Thanks, Dad, for taking me into the great outdoors.

i think they were all made of steel when they first started producing the blr , prior to the '81 lightweight . but i may be mistaken on that. there've also been blr's in .257 roberts . that's a cartridge rifle combination i wouldn't mind having.  ;D
that 11-pointer was too perty to let you have it - ( dale earnhardt )

Those missing from today's caliber offering are the .222 Remington (I don't believe ever offered in U.S.), the .223/5.56mm and the .257 Roberts (neither of mine are for sale).  While I can't find documentation, I seem to remember the 7-08 being a regular offering since the intoduction of the BLR'81.
