Top 5-10 mods for 10/22
« on: March 03, 2007, 09:38:51 AM »
What are your top 5-10 mods that you would do in building a 10/22?  If you would list the mods in order of importance to you.

Let's start with these assumptions:  You have an aftermarket stock, a good aftermarket barrell, and you will put optics on the gun.  After that, anything goes.

Also if you want to give any info of how much of a difference a particular mod will make, that would be cool also.

Any takers?,

Craig

Mods I have made to my 10/22:

aftermarket barrel. I chose a Green Mountain heavy ss barrel

aftermarket stock. I chose a Hogue stock

trigger group. I have mixed and matched hammers and triggers to get a descent trigger. If money were no object, I would put in a Kidd trigger.

scope. I mounted a Weaver 2x7 rimfire scope. Seems to be a very good scope for the money.

bolt. check headspace. Excess headspace can lead to inaccuracy. There is a guy in Conn. who specializes in modifying bolts for headspace.

bolt buffer. This should keep the aluminum receiver from cracking

little parts. Extended mag release, and auto bolt release. Don’t do anything for accuracy, but make things more convenient.

cleaning hole. hole in the back of the receiver for a cleaning rod to clean from the breach

Mine is a 10/22T

Trigger I just have a VQ and that is pretty good, never used one but the kid trigger set, seem highly reguarded.
Bolt buffer smooths out the action tons and dirt cheap
extended mag release
one hand bolt release

Things I am contemplating
Bolt job (the guy on RFC)
Recrown and possible chopdown  (16.5" -18" finished lenght)
rechamber to a true bentz chamber the T has a tighter chamber than a normal carbine but I don't think it is a true bentz (match for semi's)

The second mouse gets the cheese

VQ hammer
VQ bolt release
VQ exact edge extractor
Weapons Craft bolt buffer
Extended mag release I have a BC but any ones will work fine
Skeeter triger
all together comes to around $80. give or take........JJ
ps. If you were going to do just one thing....change the factory hammer out to a VQ. It will drop the factory 8# trigger pull down to around 2 1/2 #'s

1.  New trigger group - probably from Hornet Products.
2.  Extended mag release.
3.  Auto bolt release.
4.  Bolt buffer.
5.  Extended bolt handle.

With an aftermarket stock, barrel, and optics in place those would be my top 5 in that order.
