Spray paint removal

Today I picked up my new to me handi 204 (thanks to a heads up from quickdtoo).   I needed to do something about the paint job or I'd never get any sleep.
Using 0000 steel wool, lacquer thinner and elbow grease I was able to remove the paint from the forend (have to do the stock when I have more time).
On the other hand, I haven't been as lucky removing the paint from the barrel and receiver.  They're soaking in CLP right now, tried using a little heat first, but did'nt have much luck.  I'm leery of using any chemicals for fear of ruining the bluing.
Has anyone had any success removing spray paint (krylon) from metal parts?

Lacquer thinner should work fine, I've used it on bluing to degrease and it never hurt it. That's what Krylon recommends too.

How can I remove the paint from my project?
Most paints can be removed with a lacquer thinner (available at most paint stores). Krylon® OFF!® is an aerosol paint remover that easily removes multiple layers of paint and varnish. Please note that either of these products will remove not only the topcoat of paint, but also any other finish below the paint.

Remember to wear rubber gloves because laquer thinner can be absorbed through the skin pretty easily.

I painted an AR with Krylon and then removed it after hunting season.  Just hose it down with Gun Scrubber and use a scrub brush with plastic/nylon bristles.  It came perfectly clean with no marks on the plastic furniture or the metal.  I sprayed, scrubbed, then wiped it down with an old towel.  The second spray down got all the paint out of the small crevices.  It worked very quickly and with very little effort.
