My P-14 is the most accurate out of the box .45 I have ever owned.

If your looking for a 9mm I don't think Para Ordinance makes one. At least not that I'm aware of. KN

Hello, I believe Springfield offers a midrange priced 1911 in 9mm.
The Paras can be spotty quality wise and unless you are a 1911 hobby smith you'll likely have some problems.
The hammers and sears regularly fail, the castings are very rough, high cap mags need immediate spring replacement to avoid spring set feeding issues.
FYI, Para did offer and then discontinue a hicap 9mm the P-18, a friend has one that;s been rechambered to 9X23 with many of the internals swapped out with high grade parts.
PS, the Para LDA series is getting somehigh praise on the net.

Hay ck: if you decide on a Para in 45, get yourself a 400 Cor-Bon barrel and I'll give you some of my data for indoor bullseye loads - I think you will be impressed with the accuracy of that 40 caliber barrel and how easily she shoots bullseye. If you want to take it up the ladder from there we can talk hunting or silhouette loads.

If you want to go with a 40 caliber, get a 357 Sig barrel for some medium bore fun.

If you buy a Para in 45, you may wish to check with the factory to see if they would sell you or fit a 40 caliber slide to your pistol so you could shoot 4 different calibers. Of course, if you find a 1911 in 9mm, you can go the 38 Super/9x23, 30 Luger or 7.62x25 Tokarev routes as well.

I have a para companion 45 acp that shoots very well.
If I was buying a 40 caliber pistol,I would chose maybe a springfield xd,which could be converted to 357 sig with just a barrel change.
the 45 acp/400 corbon would be a great convertable pistol.
para's are built very well and their trigger action is extremely effective for fast shots.

I picked up a Para 12.45 and I love this pistol. It shoots better than most out of the box .45's. I have 2 stock 10 round mags and 2- 12 round mags and I have put a few hundred +P Gold Dot Georgia Arms .45's, and full hard balls through it to know it is a quality arm. It wouldn't matter if you ask about a Glock or a FreedomArms....someone out there will have a horror story or just dislike a good brand. A Para won gun of the year, year before last so someone besides me likes them. For my money, I like the Para better than the Glock, just my personal thing.

BTW at the time I bought this I also was considering a Colt 1911A1 and a Colt defender. The Para was $100 less but I liked it better.

If you're interested in hunting with an autoloader don't overlook the .45 Super. Simple mod for the 1911 that everyone owns already and you still have the .45 ACP capability!
