New Hi-Standards made in Houston?
« on: May 19, 2003, 02:42:43 PM »
I found Hi-Standard's web site recently. According to the story on the site, the tooling was purchased and moved from Connecticut to Houston. I recently ran across a Victor that was stamped indicating that it had been manufactured in Houston. This has my curiosity up, because this is the only Houston manufactured Hi-Standard that I have ever seen. I don't ever recall seeing one on any of the auction sites. Is anyone seeing any of the Houston guns in your local shops? Does anyone have any personal experience with these guns or know of anyone using one?

you are correct, Mitchel bought highstandard out and produced clones for a wile. I think they had a lot of trouble with them.  Highstandard bought  the tooling back and produced a few guns. mostly on a custom basis. I found a new Huston made supermatic in a gun shop about 10 years ago that I bought. shoots great, but the grip is a custom target and being my hands are about 4 inches wide and thick I have a hard time holding it correctly. I have always wanted a victor, a friend of mine had one that was execlent. I read your post about  a ruger or a buckmark and I tell ya you pays your money and takes your chances.

   Good Luck

I have a High Standard Citation I bought in the 1978. It's a great gun. The Mitchell copies were crap - I don't have experiance with the newer ones.
