Price of Factory ammo
« on: May 02, 2003, 02:47:18 AM »
It's hard to compete with 45ACP, 9mm, and 38 special on price. They're the most thoroughly developed and most mass produced handgun cartridges in the world.  10mm is becoming a rare and exotic caliber, particularly since 40 S&W was released.  But it was never very popular to begin with.  Notice the use of past tense in describing it.

Wal-mart has almost a $20 bill on a bow of 50. PMC, Blazer, and something else. I reload and it costs me about $8 for a box of 50 not counting time and initial equipment set-up.

The 10mm is alive and well in my part of the world. Ammo is available but usually in the HP variety and it's not cheap. It's about 50% higher than the same type of ammo in .45ACP. The plinking ammo for the 9mm/38spl and 45ACP goes for about $8-10 at Wally World. It's pretty rare that I buy the stuff because I can reload it so much cheaper. Using cast bullets and Bullseye powder about .05 per round.
