Vari-flame ignition
« on: March 17, 2007, 04:14:48 PM »
I have ordered the Vari-flame adapters to use in my Omega. Does anyone using the Vari-flames have a favorite primer to use? Does anyone have an opinion on any difference in performance with different primers? Thanks

I use them in my Omega and they are excellent!I've used CCI small rifle and small pistol primers in them with great results.Accuracy seems alittle better with the small pistols although its not a significant difference.During the recent cold snap I had the chance to test cold weather ignition with Triple 7, I shoot 70 grains of 3f, and ignition was perfect. My 1st set of Variflames is now on their 17th firing and they are holding up nicely.I dont use them for black or Pryo, I save those loads for the 209's, as the fouling makes a mess of the adaptors.Use a primer pocket cleaner just as you would with a cartridge case, and a pipe cleaner to clean out the flame aperture and all will be well.Don't get solvents in the pocket or aperture as it may kill the primer.Good luck!

Thanks for the CCI recommendations. Anyone else have a specific brand of primer that they like?  Also anyone have any ideas of relative quickness/ hotness [realizing that is part of what we are getting away from] / consistency and accuracy with various brands that they would share with the list?

I just use the CCI small rifle primers in my 25 ACP cases, I don't use the Vari-flame ignition, same concept though.
