The 40grs Nosler BT's are OAL 1.840
and the 35gr Hornady handloads are OAL 1.725
They were doing around 2,900 fps. the 35grs seemed to be doing a little less
You can push feed the round with the bolt, if you have it lined correctly in the action.
The problem is in, with the right hand feed, and scope in the way, vision is impaired, and a rimmed case doesn't help any either.
You get used to it. There's no hurry on the bench that I shoot on !!!
A magazine would be good,
but my previous clipfed CZ Hornet meant that OAL was constrained by magazine fit,
although some rifles will allow the first round in the mag, even if it's overlength, as my Weatherby Vanguard .223 does, with captive magazine, so you just feed one at a time internally from the top.
One more thing, I noticed that the factory 35grs are cannulared and crimped, which might partly explain their 3,000fps, and good grouping.
The Hornet case neck is pretty thin, and probably a little inconsistent.
Needs a constant pressure on the bullet to impart good consistent accuracy.
cheers,
Sean
