My peep sight came in today! HELP ME!
« on: March 15, 2007, 11:09:21 AM »
There is alot of extra lock-tight built up in the middle screw hole and the screw will maybe go in a 16th of an inch. i broke some of the old stuff out with a dentist pick but need to get it out of the (cant think of the word at the moment.) screw ridges on the inside. Thought about using some brake cleaner but figured i would check with you guys. HELP ME OUT HERE! Thanks in advance!
Henry.

They are threads.
A little heat can go a long way with lock tight.
Use a mini torch or soldering iron.
Then the dentist pick some more.

Wouldn't use a torch if I was worried about the finnish.
Maybe the soldering iron and very little heat.
I have only done it under the scope rail to a little discoloring wasn't a problem.
I did a search for remove locktite and found this sight claiming methyl alcohol works.
Don't know what it wil do to your gun though.

Well I did the torch thing and it didnt melt the locktight but it made it a lot easyier to remove. It doesnt look like it hurt the blueing at all. I was able to install the sight also! I will post pics within the hour!

A BIG THANK YOU TO YOU PARTSMAN! I DONT KNOW WHAT I WOULD DO WITHOUT THIS SIGHT! THANKS AGAIN!

I've used a mini torch lots, it works as good as anything else I've tried, doesn't hurt the bluing at all. ;)
