Another new 45-70
« on: March 19, 2007, 05:14:32 PM »

This one has a straight green laminated stock with a "limited edition" NEF coin inlaid.  It's purty. It may be a little while before I can get it out to shoot it, but will as soon as I can.  Ejector.

Funny, the rear sight is a Williams, with a rounded bottom.  The front sight is square.  On the two other ejector 45-70's at the shop, one had a synthetic stock, and Williams rear and matching front sight.  The other lam had square front and rear sights. "Whatever they grabbed out the sight box?"  I guess so.  Do you suppose CS would send me a front sight that actually matches the rear?

H&R has used many different sights over the years, their latest sights are supposed to be their original proprietary sights from what some have been told here. Some have had Williams WGOS, some have had a plastic sights!! ::) Just depends on when it was made.

Tim,

Thanks for the info. I'll give H&R a try anyway on the sight, figure it can't hurt.  The lam-stock rifles were NT's, the synthetic NW.

I just noticed that I didn't actually SAY that I bought it!  I had gone in there to buy the .35 Whelen (which they still have), but I guess
that I got gun-shy  ::) after the discussions here on that caliber.

Now that I have a modern receiver, besides a .223 bull, what new barrels to ponder. :D
