« on: March 15, 2007, 03:46:31 PM »
guys ,
i got a marlin model 62 levermatic chambered in 256 win mag that i have had for several years . i am thinking about parting ways with it but i do not know what they are going for these days ? i know what they are listed as in the blue book but that don't translate into real prices all the time . has anyone seen one for sale at a shop or gun show ?

Lets not forget this is a request for a price, not a classified ad.  If it turns into one the thread will be delieted.

Well Keith, do you have any help for Shooter72? If not why the threats?  ::)

Shooter72, I sold mine last year and had a hard time getting $250.00 shipped. Hope this helps, Byron

Those rifles have never been popular for some reason ?
Not sure why, they are neat little guns..
The caliber does not help you in your quest. I have seen no .256 ammo in quite some time.
Easily made from .357 mag brass though...Unless you just need the cash,
I would hang on to it. Would be great on Coyote.

It is not a threat.  It is the rules of GBO.  Sales happen on the classified forums, not the discussion forums.  Would you rather I just blew the post away?  I try to be proactive and prevent problems.  Most people prefer it.  Apparently you do not.

Keith, I'm not trying to pick a fight with you. I honestly saw nothing wrong with his post. He was not posting it for sale. He just asked for information about the value. I would think that if he decided to sell he would then put it in the classifieds.

Should he have posted this request for what they are selling for in the classifieds? Regards, Byron

I know the poster had no intention of making this a classified ad.  However nearly every time one like this is posted at least one person responds to it like it is an ad.  If that happens I have no alternative but to make the thread go away.  I prefer to head this off so the original poster gets the information they asked for.  That seems helpful to me rather than waiting and then removing the thread.

Kieth L ,
i understand what you are saying but i am just looking for information . i do not want to sell here  i am not looking for offers and i do not believe my post was misleading . i have also seen a lot of other posts in different categories asking what a gun may be worth and i have never seen a warning like you posted . that being said i am not arguing with you , you are the moderator and i am not here to cause trouble ! thanks for not deleting it i got some good information .

thanks for the info guys , i agree that they never really caught on collector wise . when i purchased the gun i also bought five boxes of ammo so maybe i should just put it away and maybe in a few years they will be in demand .  and maybe not .

Like I said in the post just above yours I know you weren't trying to do anything wrong.  Others who see this type of post and want to buy often start responding like it is an ad and then we have problems.  By putting a post in like I did that can be stopped most of the time.

I am not familiar with this gun.  Tell me about it.  Can you post a picture?

the model 62 is a different looking lever action , the receiver is small like a rim fire so it fits entirely in the stock . that makes it able to use a one piece stock and it uses a removable clip . pretty neet gun , it is the only rifle chambered for the 256 win mag . just like all marlins the top of the receiver is solid and it is drilled and tapped for scope bases . i never seem to be able to get my picture the right size to post , maybe someone else has a good picture .

Thanks, I found one on the web.  From what I read there you have a fairly unique gun.  I wish I could help you on fixing a price, but my bet is there are folks out there who would want it.  There can't be that many out there.

Good luck.

Shooter,

Found some links on another site and it seems you might have a collector item in that Model 62. These were old threads, so the value of your rig must only be more by now. From what I read, I bet you can get over $500.00 for it if it is in good condition.

Here is a link where the people are talking about prices for the 256 and also give some insight about your rare Model 62.

Here's a link from the same site where the fellow is trying to sell a Model 62, except his is a 30 cal. and your 256 is apparently more rare.

I also checked out Gunbroker, but could not find even one comparable. Seems people are hanging on to their Model 62s

Skunk ,
thanks for all the good info !   my rifle would rate about 95% only blemish is a light spot in the bluing where it must have rubbed in a gun cabinet at some point in its life . after reading all the info i am going to keep it , i know if i sell it i will wish i had it back and we all know how that feels !

hey shoot!having been a 256 fan for years i can tell you that anything in that cal. always seems to be priced relativly high(rightly) but the only thing I EVER see bring the price are Contender barrels. In the levermatic they ask a higher price but always sell lower or not at all.The only mdl. 62s that seem to move are the .30 carbine rifles,,for obvious reasons.Hope this helps
