Ruger # 1 resale value?
« on: March 19, 2007, 07:16:38 AM »
The time has come for me to sell my #1 in .308win. I bought it new at Christmas of 2003 and have ended up only shooting about 200 rounds through it.  I'm selling it with hardcase and Bushnell 3-9X waterproof scope. It's the walnut/blued version. Bluing looks about 95-98% and it overall looks to be in very-good to excellent condition. I'm wondering about what I could expect to get for it. Thanks for ideas.

I would say $600 to $650. List price is now over $1000 and I hear dealer cost is over $700.
If I find one for $500 or less usually I buy it.

Shops here will price thier used #1's between $600-$650 usually.  A few with nice optics get a bit more.  I'd say for a decent one as you describe, $600 - $625.  Hate to say it but a Bushnell won't bring much additional to the package.  Last I looked my dealer could order me a new one and his cost was just under $700.    Of course for a trade, expect considerably less as the dealer then has to be able to mark it up enough to make it worth his while while still keeping it at a reasonable selling price.

Seems like everyone is selling used ones at the $600 to $650 price at dealers, but individuals I see sold at local gun shows are usually about $100 less, and they sell.

gunshows are a good place for high volume guns like 10/22's mossburgs and savages.

Well, there's a local gunshow this weekend, and I was planning on going. Would it be reasonable to expect $600ish or should I try to sell it some other way?

horseman if you have to sell it quick you have a tuff rifle to sell at a gun show great gun !! but hard seller. but there might be somebody
I  WOULD PULL THE SCOPE AND SELL IT GUN AND RINGS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE SCOPE BUT YOU WOULD BE GIVING THE SCOPE AWAY FOR FREE! UNLESS YOU HAVE A REAL TOP END SCOPE YOU WONT GET ANYTHING OUT OF IT.I AM NOT A DEALER BUT I HAVE LEARNED THIS.

Good advice given about the scope...but...around here...a 98-99% #1 you can expect to pay more for one...Most dealers are selling them for their cost on a new one or more. The used #1's sell for around $775 and up depending on caliber rated at 99%...so you do have bargaining room with them if trading for a higher priced rifle in which the dealer has a higher mark up on...on a trade for a lower price gun...expect a lot less......Expect less if selling out right to a dealer or at a gun show( to an individual it will go for as much as you can get)...They know most folks want to make a quick sale at the gun shows around here..and their offers reflect that as well...

Same here...that's why they command a higher price when you do find them..

In my area we cannot use rifles on deer. Varmint hunters seem to think the No.1 is not accurate so a few bargains can be had.

I bought another #1 last week.
I dickered  him down from $675 to $600.
The prices have gone up $150.
I was paying $450 in 2003.
