Help with 99CD
« on: March 17, 2007, 01:03:20 PM »
I just bought a Savage 99CD and could use some help.
1) Is the blue on the CD deeper than the normal "C"? .....My bluing is as deep as say a Browning Medalion. I now think its a reblue.
2) Do all CD's have the Medalion? .....Mine doesn't But there is no hole for it.
What was the factory finish on the stock; urithane or oil?
3) What would the butt plate/pad look like on a CD?
If someone has some photos of a CD I would apeciate some.
Thanks

Savorino,

I'm no expert on the 99 and I read the following information at the Savage99 website. Here is a link in case you don't have it:

http://www.savage99.com/

According to that website, your rifle should have "Model 1899" marked on the barrel. In addition, it should be pretty close to the following in each respective category:

1899 CD

Barrel: Round, octagon, or half octagon, half round,  26"
Buttstock: Pistol grip w/ checkering
Buttplate: Steel or rubber shotgun butt
Forearm: Straight, schnoble tip w/ checkering
Front Sight: Knife edge dovetail

Sorry, but I have no info on the medallion. Without actually seeing the rifle, I'm inclined to agree that it has been reblued. Post some pics of it if possible.
