32 Mag for Hunter Pistol Silhouette
« on: March 18, 2007, 06:43:28 PM »
Anyone got thoughts about 32 H&R Mag for NRA Hunter Pistol Silhouettes? How well does it work, will it work for open sights? Any thoughts on loads?

Hi Chucky,

I use the 32 Mag for both BB standing and for field pistol. My load is 9.2 grains of ADI 2205 ( H4227 equiv I think) with the 165gr cast bullet. Even at 200 yds properly set rams go slow, but they go. I use the sameload for both.
Peter.

It works very well for Hunter Pistol and Field Pistol with 85 to 100 gr. bullets. I like H4227.

.32 H&R would be about perfect power wise.
Remember T/C barrels are .308" in that caliber. Finding the right dies could be tricky.
30-20-TC  (32/20 WCF with a .308 bore) and .30 M1 carbine are also in the same catagory. .30 M1carbine wouldn't take special dies and brass is buku strong.

Although the TC is .308, it's throated for .312.

What would be a good revolver for the 32 mag?

The FA Mdl.97. The T/C Contender. The Ruger Single-Six Adjustable sight, 9 1/2" barrel version, if you can find one. It was discontinued years ago. The S&W Model 16, also discontinued years ago. Dan Wesson also made one in very small quantities, but I have no personal experience with the DW in this caliber.

SSK Industries, (J.D. JONES) has Contender barrels with a .312 bore diameter for the 32 H&R Mag.

32 mag works good for HP.  110 grain bullets and 5.0 grains AA#5.  Light load and very accurate.  The Sierra 110 HP is THE bullet for HP if you can afford them.  I load up a 100gr cast bullet.  Have some 110 grain cast loaded up in new 32-20 to try out saturday.  Have #5 powder in them also.

Good Luck.

I have a 10" t/c barrel and a 10" bf, both in 32 hr,  my daughter uses for ihmsa bb and fp.  I use 125 speer bulk bullets for fp and 150-180 bullets for bb ( different ranges set ram differently).    this caliber is definitely enough for what you want to do and because of the lack of recoil,  almost anyone can shoot it well.  jim

Lead, jacketed, wax, they all work.  100-110 grain cast bullet and 5 grains AA#5.  *** Do NOT load AA#5 with wax bullets. *** you will just gum up your barrel.  I made up some wax bullets for my dad.  He uses them on a couple of varmints getting into his bird feeders.  Doesn't kill them, but does leave a nasty bruise.  Enough to keep them away for a few weeks at a time......

94 meister is probably sized .312 or .314.  Depending on your load, you could end up leading the barrel.  Seems like 8.0 - 10.0 grains of AA1680 worked with that bullet.  Takes a little longer to build up the pressure, but does so more evenly.  Crimp it good.  Other slower powders like lil'gun, clays, universal, etc should make that bullet perform for you.

Good Luck!

My loads for NRA pistol with a 10" TC barrel were;

85gn Horn XTP   9.0gr H110  1226fps   Fed 100 primer

100gr Magnus (lead)  3.5gr Unique  1116fps   CCI 550 primer

115gr GC Cast   4.0gr Unique  1148fps   CCI 550 primer

The Magnus and the 115gr Gas Check bullets were designed for the M1 Carbine.

Was that XTP .308 or .312?
Be honest with yourself.  Can you guarantee you would hit a paper plate at 250 yards...100 yards...50 yards?  Then you have no business replacing the plate with a live animal.
