Stevens magazine ?
« on: February 28, 2007, 03:43:05 AM »
My model 200 shoots great. Yesterday I got some groups around .75" at 100 yds., with the white box Win., 45gr. h.p. This wasn't all day long or anything but it was often enough that I am happy. The only problem is that one round coming from the magazine often fails to load. If you load 4 rounds the second one [ from the right hand side of the magazine ] will hang up. The round seems to slip out so quick that it doesn't get aligned and it jumps sideways. If I load 2 rounds no problem. Has anyone else had this happen?

I pretty much have had the same results as you. 3/4" group at 100 yds. with 45 gr. white box. I found if I made sure the rounds were pushed all the way back in the magazine it helped. If I cycled the bolt slowly the round on the right would hang up also. Won't be much shooting around here for the next six to eight weeks as the windy season is here. Weatherman is predicting 60 to 70 mph this afternoon.

I am finding that if I cycle the bolt faster the rounds do feed fine. I really like the rifle. A friend wants to buy my Rem 700 in 6mm and I might sell it to get another model 200 in .308. Our weather is just starting to warm up enough to enjoy the days here. Thanks for the reply oldandslow.

I'm picking up my new Model 200 in 223 tomorrow or Friday. I am looking forward to getting the type of accuracy you guys are talking about. I had a TC Contender and a Handi Rifle  in 223 but sold them both. Nice enough rifles, but I decided that the multiple shot capability of the bolt action for coyote hunting was needed.

If I like it as much as I expect to I might look into a 7-08  or a 308 as an extra deer rifle to have around. I now have a 260 Rem and a 25-06 both in Ruger M77 MKII. My son has pretty much claimed the 260 as his. Any thoughts on the 7-08 vs 308? The largest game I plan on hunting is northern whitetails.

i'm really liking my 200 more and more. the trigger is improving with use and so i haven't touched it. i thought i had a problem with rounds feeding from the #3 position in the magazine. i see now that some surplus rounds i bought were just abit long. i want to learn to reload with rifle too. i'm thinking of getting a .308 as well. i am happy with mine. hope you will be too.

My .308 feeds perfectly but on my new .223 the second round wants to hand up, that is go now where just lay there in the mag.  I was going to bring that up but hoped that it was just something that would maybe work itself out.  The gun shoots great except for that glitch.  It doesn’t seem to matter how fast or slow or hard I work the bolt.

hollow points don't feed as smooth as SP bullets for me. those win 45g hollows need to really be slammed home while the 55g sp never cause a stop. same with the fed American eagle;smooth as butter. i've fired about 125 rounds now so i think i'll just zero in on the American eagle 55g fmjbt to practice save my win 55g sp to hunt til i get the reloading started. i find the trigger has improved alot even after only this much use. Ranger J, what is the recoil like with the .308? i read on another post that they are harsh.

The recoil on the .308 is not bad but you will definitely need to get some sort of recoil pad on it.  I had a shooter’s friend on mine when I sighted it in and when I shot the two deer with it.  I have since put the Pachmayr recoil pad that is listed for the Savage 110 SYN.  It fits like a glove.  I shoot 150 Gr. PSPs and only load them to about 2600 FPS as most of my shots are 100 yd or less.  I have no problem running 50 or 60 rounds through mine at the range and I am one that doesn’t like much recoil.
