Here's my entry.....a 38" water moccasin. We've had some heavy rains lately and with the ground saturated, the fields are flooding. Skunks and snakes seem to abound around here now. While walking the dog in the fields, I ran across this critter...darn near stepped on it is more like it...sunning himself in the high clover along the banks of our creek. I instantly knew what I must do...so I shot inside, loaded up bessie, grabbed the video and started shooting...quite literally.:)

Don -

Congratulations and thanks!

We are honored that your weapon of choice was black powder fueled and that you chose to post the trophy here!

(You do have some fine-looking bladed instruments you could have chosen.)

We've had enough rains that our "dry creekbed" has held water for almost a year now. It has little perch, frogs and related things. Now the snakes have been coming up. My first thought was a large oak branch and some limestone sitting right next.  When he spooked, he went up the creek where it shallows. I figured a half hour or sohe'd be back in the clover sunning...and sure enough...he was. The neighbors have been finding them up on the patio the last couple weeks! :o

I had been taking photos and video of a new one I had jut built, so I had all my blackpowder stuff sitting out handy! I just couldn't resist. I did warn the neighbor first since the part of our property it was on was directly near their house. She said "shoot it...kill it...don't worry about noise...shoot it." It's great to have cool neighbors! Our new springer spaniel puppy wasn't sure what to think of the boom stick. I'm glad he didn't see the snake, or he would have chased it for sure!

I popped something the other night as well, but some of the more sensitive types on the internet might oppose pictures of it. I figured I'd save Graybeard a headache and not post it. 4 oz of lead 3/8" shot on top of 100 grFFg does a number on feral small game! ;)
