Thanks Rick, I shot a 350 grn FF goex and got about 375 yards, I missed the cone set up of corse at about 75 yards!  But after a few shots with 45 to 50 grns I got about 4 ft from it.

Yeah there is no doubt the kid liked.   Kind of a challenge to get close to the target isn't it?

I just had to fire 350 load for first shot, Didn't see it but we heard it land! It was fun to play today. I can't belive how much 5 grains of powder makes.

Hey Tropico.... I will have to confess, it is I.  The Desert Marksman Rondezvous is basically a western fur trade event, but a lot of us dress colonial.  The cannon / mortar segment was a great success.  As I recall 3 cannon and 6 or more mortar ranging from 2 1/4" to golfball.  We had up to 600 yards available downrange so we certainly weren't limited in that respect.  One of the more popular spectator events is a "stake shoot".  It involves several teams of 5 or 6 shooters using muzzleloading rifles trying to cut down a 4x4... really a lot of fun to watch.  Next year.... will have to set up a "rifles vs cannons stake shoot", that should really be a hoot.

Depends on what you mean by a "live load".  Explosive projectile? No.  Solid shot, yes.  A solid cast zinc ball weighing about a pound and a half.

Yeah thats What I meant, a solid shot load. The recoil doesn"t seem violent at all, looks nice and smooth.

That was with 500gr GOEX Cannon, probably a fairly light load.  This is only a guess, but I figure max is somewhere around 900gr... could be more, could be less.  Somewhat of a moot point though as I am having a liner made which will reduce it down to a 1" bore.  I will feel much safer that way as there will be no point on the barrel with less than a 1 caliber wall thickness.
