7.62 X 39 bolt head
« on: April 18, 2007, 06:35:14 AM »
If this has been answered before I apologize I didn't find it looking through some older posts. Does anyone make a bolt head for the m1x series rifles that is the right size for the 7.62 X 39 case head. I would like to built a really light short rifle in this caliber for my grandson.

I'm not aware of any, but somebody'll make anything for enough money. I don't know what you'd have to to about feeding though, you might be better off buying a rifle made for that cartridge.  :-\

Sharp Shooter Supply Co. makes an extractor that you can fit (or have them fit) to the .473" bolt face to extract the 7.62 case, but sometimes it doesn't eject correctly, and they do state that on the website.  They also will take a .223 bolt head, open it up, and fit the extractor to it, and then the cases will eject.  Last time I looked, I think that it was $75 or so to get the new bolt head, and it was $30 to have the extractor fitted to the .473" (30-06 size) bolt head.
