Practice bullets
« on: March 26, 2007, 06:44:57 AM »
I'm going to get a handi-rifle for shooting varmints and predators.  I haven't decided yet on a .22 Hornet or a .223, but I know I'll be handloading.  What bullets do you guys use when you're just practicing?  I saw some at Midway USA called "Dogtown" bullets which are priced nicely.  Has anyone used these or can you give me some advice on bullet selection?

I have been using Remingtons from Midway for plinking rounds. Don't buy these as they vary greatly in weight, length and where the cannelure is. I have been using TNT's with good luck for more accuracy. My next bulk purchase will be the dogtown's, but first  I need to finish off the 4,000 bulk I already have.

The TNTs work well and for about a buck a 100 more i use the Hornady V-Max , have not used the Dogtowns but have seen mixed results from other shooters .

I don't see any reason to shoot any thing except what I'll be hunting with. Unless there was an enormous price difference or some thing. A couple of dollars a hundred difference doesn't make sense to me.   KN

I use V-MAX and Ballistic Tips for varmints.  Extremely accurate and terminally effective.

ditto what Kn and Coyote Hunter said ...

If I go plinking at the range, I'll take other rifles that are not a dedicated varmit or predator rifle.

Ditto on what kn & Coyote Hunter & bigjeepman said...

Go with the premium bullets...25 rounds a week (or five, five shot groups) at ranges that vary can be alot of shooting considering that the rifle may have MOA capability to begin with!
Just work on your form, breathing, & trigger control and the rifle will do the rest!
