Keweenaw area
« on: August 19, 2007, 02:04:41 PM »
My wife and I were vacationing in the Keweenaw area a few weeks ago. Such a beautiful place. Seen a few deer in the porcupine mountains area. Whats the deer population like in the Keweenaw penninsula? Might like to go hunting there some day.

My father is originally form up there, Laurium. I still have some relatives there and try to visit every couple of years or so, they say the hunting is great. I'm not really sure about the availability of public land but I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to find out.

Did you guys head up to copper harbor? That's a beautiful bike ride in the fall.

We did go to Copper Harbor, it was very nice. Stayed in Houghton, a beautiful historic little town with fine dining everywhere. We will visit again someday, perhaps in the fall.

I am from the Northern U.P. & we are heading up today on a camping trip. Yes there is plenty of public access land up that way, I usually am in Baraga county. Just get a platt book and look it over. The winters are usually very tough in the northern U.P. & there is plenty of hair laden wolf scat.
